What material can I use to hang Stairs from the ceiling?

Category : Lighting Designs

We are looking to build stairs that hang from the ceiling and we need a material that:
A) IS strong enough to support appx the weight people climbing up the stairs carrying heavy items.
B) For design purposes will catch the light and or be very shiny.
C) Will not be too thick
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome!

Whats the best basic deck I can make from these cards?

Can I install IC rated recessed lights adjacent to older cloth wiring?

Category : Recessed Lighting

I have a 100 year old house with what appears to be two sets of wire – one that I think is cloth (1940s?) and one that is more modern (70s/80s). I’m trying to update the older wire and install recessed lights in the hall while doing updating. I’ve run 12/2 romex to the attic for the recessed lights, but when I pulled up the floor boards, I found that where I want to install the recessed light would be right next to (nearly touching) another run of the cloth wire. Since the cans I’m using are IC (there is insulation up there as well) rated is this ok or does the recessed light heat pose a fire hazard if to close to the older wire. At this time, removing that cloth wire isn’t an option.

Note – the "cloth" wire is largely exposed in the area I’m describing. the cloth appears to run up some type of clamp where it is tied to smaller jacketed (some type of rubber?) covering and runs through each stud in what appears to be some type of porcelain tube. The cloth runs go each fixture, but when they come back up, the wire running across vertically through the studs is in this thinner covering (and it’s the thin stuff) that is the recessed light if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the response Gary, knob and tube sounds right. I’m guessing the panel was upgraded when the newer wire was added (wiring that old would likely have originally been on fuses, right?) as it is a 100 amp box that has 8 switches up top, two of them feeding the other 12 below (almost like a subpanel on the same board). But it seems likely that whoever installed the newer wire left several runs of the knob and tube throughout the house, and I’m understanding why. It just snakes through every room in the house. Which I’m sure means I’m out of code compliance from the start (fyi – in Buffalo, NY).

Just to clarify – when you say bad idea, do you mean it’s a bad idea to install the IC rated recessed light so close because of the heat they give off or would installing anything nearby be a bad idea…and if so, how far should a fixture be to be safe?

Ultimately I want to eliminate all the knob and tube, but I need to do it in phases, and likely won’t be able to get what appear to be
Thanks Danzka! That helps. I getting 2-3" inches from the wire would put it off center a little more than I would like, so I’m probably just going to use a regular ceiling mount box and fixture.

Thanks guys.

If you approach a railroad track where the gate has come down or lights are flashing, you should stop:

I have a small chandelier I am going to hook to electricity.?

Category : Chandelier

Here is what I have…a wire that looks like a regular cord for a plug in and a copper looking wire I assume is the ground. In the drop ceiling I have two wires that seem to have been been cut from electric cord and hard wired into another track lighting. I have had a light up here before but have not ever previously hooked electric up. I know it can handle the electric current. There are caps at the end of the wires so I am assuming (love assuming) that I can attach the wires from the light to these wires and recap. Then I need to ground the cooper wire, but what is a good ground? It is a drop ceiling so can I attach to the grid or wires holding the drop ceiling? Of course the electric will be off! I am wondering is it possible to cross the two wires and have a big boo boo happen? I appreciate the input. I am really needing to get this completed shortly so please anyone with some expertise respond!

Could modern physics and cosmology be wrong?

Category : Modern Lighting

The questions and information here challenge the entire scientific community regarding the correctness of the physics and the cosmology developed in the past 150 years or so. It is very hard yet there is no choice but to confront them!

Classic physic led by Galilean physics teaches that matters produce phenomena such as that air produces atmospheric pressure meaning that phenomena have “physical origins”. However, the mathematical theories of Einstein and others teach to use mathematical equations to represent universal phenomena meaning that phenomena have mathematical origins. For example, according to them light is electromagnetic wave or photon, gravity is curved spacetime. The physics of mathematical origins is apparently contradictory with the physics of physical origins and therefore one of them must be wrong.

The question is which one is the correct physics? Since the physical origins such as those of an atmospheric pressure, the sound, and a fire have been proven correct for centuries, should we ask whether they can be represented by any derived mathematical equations? If not, have the mathematical theories of Einstein, Faraday, Maxwell, etc. been disproved?

So far there are widely accepted mathematical theories for light, gravity, other universal forces, particle physics, etc. Yet, there is essentially no coherency and there are even serious contradictions among them! Together, can they be the correct physics?

There can be only one correct natural science that should be coherent and consistent as a whole. Galilean physics has long been the foundation of all fields of natural science meaning that they are consistent and the common-sense physics. Upon repeatedly proven correct for centuries, it should be self event to be the only correct physics except for the long-time failure in finding the physical origins of the universal phenomena. What if the physical origins of all universal phenomena have been found leading to a coherent and consistent interpretation of them and the universe? Since only the correct physics can offer such a comprehensive interpretation of the nature, Galilean physics has to be it. The new discovery is given in the book “Common Sense Physics and Cosmology”, Infinity Publishing.com. and a summary paper is available to anyone requests it(jtsau@comcast.net).

The next question is how to bring our scientific community and government back to real physics and cosmology, the classical Galilean physics? Are they willing to give up the mathematical theories they have been supporting in the past century?

Is it easier to use a can light converter or change out the junction box to ceiling light junction box?

I am changing out can lights to pendant lights and it is looking a lot more difficult than i originally thought.

Is it okay for the bride not to wear a veil?

19

Category : Chandelier

I know, I know, it’s a traditional and staple accessory for the bride, but I find it unnecessary and a big waste of 0-0. Besides, I’ll be wearing a faux fur wrap/stole, elbow-length gloves, chandelier earrings, and possibly matching ear muffs.

What do I need to convert a can light to a pendant light hanging over my island in my kitchen?

Category : Pendant Lighting

Is it just as simple as a can converter that you screw into the lightbulb socket? I will hanging a couple pendant lights on a decorative chain. The ceiling CANOPY or cover for the new pendant light is antique brass and 6.25 OD. Is this enough od to cover the 6" can light hole in the ceiling?
