We currently have a range hood that does not have a ventilation shaft. I never use the fan. We’ve lived here for several years and the fan has never worked anyway. So my question, is it possible for me to remove the range hood and just replace it with a light fixture of some sort? I would rather do that so that my lighting over my stove is higher quality. I am working on a very limited budget and doing the work myself.

Iam planning to change them and Iam not able to decide what finish to use and should I match my faucets with my light and knobs. I do not want to go with the modern or contemporary look. Plus I have stainless steel towels bars and cabinet knobs too. I would appreciate if someone can help me decide on a finish and is it ok if I have two different kinds of finishes.

My grandmother told me that she just had a neighbor install a 120 watt outdoor halogen spotlight in on of the recessed can lighting fixtures in her kitchen. I was worried that these types of bulbs would generate too much heat for this kind of enclosed fixture and might be a fire hazard. Am I right to be worried or are these lights OK to use? I drained my pool and then noticed the light fixture was loose, and it was only secured by one screw at the top. When I removed the light I noticed a lot of build up and dirt in the housing where the light was secured. I noticed the metal trim ring around the light had holes in it to allow the entire fixture to fill up with water, is that normal for a pool light?

The fixture is a new light socket with a pull switch and the wiring in the building is aluminum. The fixture looks to be copper and I don’t think that there is an aluminum replacement.

Can I use regular fluorescent light fixtures from the store. And run T5 grow bulbs in them?

I have experience replacing outlets and basic electrical knowledge . I have a game room that is 21ft L x 14ft W. The room currently has one small ceiling mounted light. The wall panel has 1 free switch and 1 that controls the light. I’m guessing the free switch would control a fan if i were to install a light fixture with fan. I’d like to add 5 recessed lights to brighten the room. Is this job to big to tackle for a novice or can this be a reasonable DIY task? – Thanks
