I know you can use simple light fixtures by doing this, but I want to know specifically about the photo or motion sensors. Due to the position on an outside wall, I can’t use a transformer. If it won’t work without a transformer I’ll just buy a model without photo / motion sensors and use 220v bulbs.
We currently have a long fluorescent light fixture in the middle of out kitchen. It’s ugly, gives off terrible lighting, and you can see when bugs get caught in there. Anyway, I’d like to put in a new fixture, but would like some advice on the best type that looks nice and gives good lighting. It’s approximately 50in long.
I am looking to upgrade my lighting system for my fish tank. I have a 125 gal planted FW tank. I am looking for either (2) 24" fluorescent fixtures or a 60" fluorescent fixture that can produce anywhere between 2-4 watts per gallon. Sure am having a heck of a time finding something reasonable that INCLUDES lights. Any suggestions?

An electrician told us that we need to find special light fixtures. Our home was built in 1968 and has 60 degree C insulated wiring. We want to replace an older light fixture (not recessed) and want to be sure it’s compatible. The electrician told us to call around to find something that would work BUT I have called specialty electrical and lighting stores to ask about special ordering this sort of fixture but they tell me that there is no way to tell in advance whether or not a light fixture is rated for the 60 degree insulation. (FYI: We do not want to install a junction box.) Anyone know of a specific manufacturer who makes a light fixture rated to 60 degrees? Or are we out of luck? Thanks.

What did we do before light fixtures came around?

How to survive without lighting:
It is a t-5 system, 4 bulbs total (two 10,000 K daylight and two actinic) which combine for a total of 124 watts. Here is the link: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/1/1/14195-coralife-lunar-aqualight-ho-t5-aquarium-light-fixture.html
Would this be enough light for a 30 gallon reef tank? Not enough? Thanks for the help!
I know there is no 3-way LED bulb yet. My 3-way light fixture can be set to use 50, 100 or 150 watts. Can I replace the old bulb with LED bulb and keep the setting on 50 watts permanently? The LED light bulb actually just consumes 6 watts in this case.
