Ok, so basically I am going to be graduating high school this spring and going to college in the fall. The one thing that I need to do before that is prepare my room for late night studies and in general, make the room more appealing to myself and friends since I will still be living with my parents for a while.
My room is on the small side, barely any walking space due to the size of the room and the big furniture. The room is painted pumpkin orange. Furniture includes a bed frame and headboard, 2 bedside tables, an armoire, a dresser with a circular mirror, and a desk. There’s one window on a wall with the desk below. I have recessed lighting in my room (3 light bulbs that are placed in the ceiling).
I will probably not get any new furniture but I’m open to repainting my walls. I am on a small budget too.
Sorry I can’t put up pictures at the time but that is the gist of it.
My personality: a mix between outgoing and wild/fun and quiet and reserved.
Interests: reading, movies, school, music
Styles I like: eclectic, romantic, and old world
I want my room to be more exciting yet functional for doing work.

I am a young professional just out of college and I bought a decent, but older condo. I really need to remodel my living room and definitely my kitchen. I have the design ideas of the remodel, but nothing totally set.
Here’s my dilemma:
1. Should I hire an interior designer and if so, how much do they usually cost? Is it worth it?
2. The biggest question: Should I hire a general contractor OR hire individual skilled contractors separate (electrical, painters, flooring, kitchen installers, etc)?
3. If I go with the general contractor, is this more expensive? If so, how much more would I be likely to be spending?
4. How do I go about choosing the best contractors (especially for the kitchen)? It is okay to go to a Lowe’s or Home Depot?
I’m obviously very new to this home remodel thing, but here’s what I would like to get done:
-Remove old carpet in living room.
-Remove old tile in entrance foyer and kitchen.
-Install laminent wood throughout kitchen and living room.
-Re-do baseboards.
-Remove popcorn acoustic on ceiling.
-Replace old florescent light in kitchen with recessed lighting.
-Re-paint entire place a neutral color. Also need to repair minor wall markings. Also re-paint ceiling.
-Wire a dedicated outlet to the breaker box for an over the range microwave.
-Tear out old kitchen. Install new cabinets, granite countertops, sink, faucets.
-Replace appliances with new stainless steel.
Thanks in advance! I need as much advice as I can get !!
I have a garage that I would like to transfrom.
Epoxy and seal the floor. I would like to paint the walls.
I want to make it look extra special but was wondering what would be the best way to do that.
I was thinking of brown walls and taking out the big lights and putting in recessed lighting, I was even thinking of putting a mall flat screen down there.
I saw some awesome Garages on tv the other night and while mine is only 2 cars and not 20 like the ones I looked at I would like to give it that special wow look.
Anyone have any ideas?

I purchased a couple of 60 watt replacement bulbs (Sylvania) and I was wondering if they are SAFE to put in a standard enclosed indoor glass dome ?
The CFL bulb package says, to not use them in "totally enclosed recessed luminaries"; which sounds sort of like a glass dome.

00. Time frame: Approx 10 working days.
Single family Long Island home, 3100 sq. ft. about (house is about 5 bed, 4.5bth +living, dining, kitchen, den, basement). QUOTE INCLUDES LABOR ONLY. I will purchase all supplies separately.
Contractor will do following:
prime and paint full interior of home, couple different colors (note: there are moldings).
den room is currently paneled, will Sheetrock/paint over full room.
repair ceiling Sheetrock in a room.
paint small amount on porch.
swap a couple of interior light fixtures.
swap some light fixtures for dimmer/timers.
install 3 new (accessible from attic – already some in room)
recessed lighting fixtures.
repair closet sliding door track.
I know insulation has to be at least 3 inches away from the can, but what about if the can butts up against the joist. The reason it does is due to measurement reasons, so it lines up with other recessed lights in the room.
