I have vaulted 9 foot ceilings with recessed lighting throughout my house. Almost every bulb in the house is out so I need to do something. (I’m a procrastinator). I don’t have a ladder and I don’t really want to buy one. I called a handyman and he wants to charge me . Give me a magic answer…

Doing searches on-line, it looks like you normally need a 3 inch gap all around recessed lighting. However, on the Cooper Lighting Halo Air-Tite fixtures that I’m installing, the instructions say "Fixture is designed for installation where it may come in direct contact with insulation". So, it sounds safe, however, the rolled insulation I’m using says something like "Fire Hazard: Keep this [paper] surface away from heat sources". I’m pretty certain that the pink fiberglass stuff can make direct contact, but, I’m not so certain about the paper side.
kravdraa, this is on new construction in my basement. I am putting insulation between the floors to help dampen the noise.
I called Cooper Lighting who makes the fixture ( http://www.amazon.com/Halo-H7ICT-6-Inch-Housing/dp/B0009J6CG8 ) and they confirm that contact with paper is ok.

I want this outlet to be controlled by the dimmer switch and 2nd regular switch. I want the outlet to dim any lamp or rope lighting connected to it to also dim with the other lights. How would i connect the outlet to one of the fixtures in the middle of the run. I installed the 7 recessed lights and the 3way dimmer and regular switch myself and it came out perfect. I just do not know if i should connect the fixture black and white wires to the outlet or use one of the travelers. Is this even possible. Again, i want the outlet to dim with the rest of the lights.
for a theater room
any recomdations on size of lights

Are recessed (can) lights rated for outdoor use? I plan on installing recessed lights on a porch.Would this violate code?
Existing wiring in attic runs over where the can will go. If the top of the housing contacts this wire, will it damage the wire?

I have recessed lighting. When two of them burnt out (or so I thoguht) the circuit breaker in the panel tripped. I just bought a box of bulbs to change all of the burnt out ones in the house and the two that tripped the breaker won’t work with a new bulb. Is it common for those things to break. I know they have a thermal breaker of some sort in them. Can you fix it without going in the attic. I hate to mess with the insulation.
I have some skills as an electrical engineer that designs washing machines. I opened it up and there are melted wires that shorted. My house is new so I let the builder know.

I am trying to shop for recessed light for my shower 5×5. I would like a smallish light with a surface light or glass shield. Ikea has 3 small directional lights for 20.00 it’s a great deal and good-looking light and it is approved for bathroom areas. (Blixt) The problem lies in the fact that they have very strict requirements for install. a) Center to center of adjacent luminaries 24" b) Top of Luminaries to over head building member 1/2" c) Luminaire center to side building member 12” This means that it has to be dead center of the trusses I guess. All the info that I have pulled up on other lights say that insulation can’t be closer then 3" and they have cans that go over the top for heat protection. Can I put these in a can? Has anyone ever done that? Am I spinning my wheels? Am I going to set my house a blaze trying to save some money? I don’t really understand this entire lighting lingo and I need some help. I have called a couple of lighting stores and they sound like they are in the dark (he he) like me. I called today about LCD lights and they are crazy expensive this is for a shower they are not used that much hardly ever. Help please!
