How would I go about making my own candle sconces?

Category : Wall Sconces

I am wanting a bunch of candle sconces or ways to hang candles up on my walls, but I don’t want to have to pay a bunch for them. Also, I am big on re-purposing things so making sconces out of other items would be great however I need some help with ideas. Anyone know of ways to make candle sconces?

What other colors will go with purple and navy? Any idea for my bathroom?

I am repainting my bathroom now that my sister is moving downstairs. I am pretty happy to get my own space. I am fifteen and the wall paper was cute when I was little but I want something new.

Today I found a really pretty wall sconce at a yard sale. It is like cast iron with glass purple ornaments and little glasses for tea lights. I love it and I want to put it in the bathroom. I always liked the idea of purple and orange. However my counter top is dark blue so the orange won’t work. Also the floor is white tile.
It’s not a very big space or at least it doesn’t feel big with all the fixtures. I like it though. It’s probably like 7′ by 7′

Overall what color(s) can go well with navy and purple. I like something warm and cozy. Here were some ideas I had.

How to tell what wire is which for a three pole light switch?

Category : Wall Sconces

I recently got a new wall sconce that uses non-dimmable CFLs. I have a regular 3 pole light switch downstairs that controls the light, and upstairs was a 3 pole dimmer switch. I have to take the dimmer switch out and put on a new regular 3 pole switch.

However, the wiring in the wall isn’t color coded the way the instructions on the three pole switch say they should be. The instructions want a black, white, red, and ground wire, I believe, where as I have two black wires, one red wire, and one ground.

What is the best way to tell which wire is the hot, which wire is the neutral, and which wire is the common?

Zelda, Ocarina, Fire Temple F5's impossible chest?

Category : Wall Sconces

in the GameCube version of Ocarina, after completing the Fire Temple, there was a spot on the map which i’d not visited : F5 East

there are two entrances to the upper level of the far East F3 puzzle (with all the rolling boulders). near the upper door you play the scarecrow tune and Pierre appears atop a huge wall sconce (for lack of a better term) and you hookshot up to him. turn around and hookshot from in front of Pierre, to a platform that lifts you up to F4, a small passageway with two climbing walls leading to F5

Ok, so how do you get the chest open ? seven times i’ve been knocked back by the flames as they rise when i enter the circle. four times i’ve been next to the chest (tripping on it once) and when the walls of flame rise i’m tossed out – SERIOUSLY, that can’t be right ?!? there is barely enough time to get to the chest as it is, and i’ve tried everything short of <joke> letting the DM hump my leg </joke> . . .

has anyone accomplished this seemingly impossible feat ? i’d love to hear about it, and your suggestions (if you’ve succeeded). video would probably be the only thing to convince me, as i’ve tried at least two hundred consecutive times, and have resorted to Action Replay codes for infinite lives / magic so i can endlessly try.

again, this is the *GameCube* version

thanks !
i already have the hammer, which came from level 5F *WEST* … i’ve gotten the ”Fire Medallion”, and am about to free the last of the carpenters.

again, i’ve completed all the others areas of the ”Fire Temple”

looking at the dungeon map you can clearly see where you have, and have not, been. this area (the position of which is clearly specified in the original question) is obviously not needed for completion. the room is circular, with the central opening leading all the way to the molten lava, spanned by a bridge.

as an aside, Pierre is not needed to get the hammer, but is essential to reaching 5F *EAST*

to further clarify, i’ve scoured the web looking for any reference to this room – to no avail. if you are not an expert in Zelda games you will probably not be able to answer this question

Recessed lights over vanity in bathroom ?

Category : Wall Sconces

Need some help with placement. How far from the back wall do you place recessed lights? I think I have them spaced right just unsure of how far back. My vanity counter will be 73.5" long. Installing (3) 3" 50 watt lights over the vanity. I pretty much decided to put one light on center 36.75" from side wall and the other two 18" to each side. Does that sound good? But, how far from the back wall? I would like the light to wash down the wall and reflect the light as well. I know I will need to find some other wall sconce lights for around the mirror but would like to make correct decision on the recessed for now
Yes, lights are directional

Installing a Junction box with no studs around?

Category : Wall Sconces

Hi,

I recently bought a loft condo in chicago. I’ve been installing new lights and making a lot of upgrades but I have one area which requires a junction box, but there isn’t a place to mount it.

I’m installing a wall sconce in a walk in closet. I wired pre-wired flexible conduit to a junction box near another light, and fish taped it over to where I needed to put the box. When I cut the wall, there was nothing near the location to attach the the box too. Since its a loft, the walls are basically hollow boxes of dry wall put up. Its hard to explain but there isn’t anywhere with in 4 to 5 feet to mount the junction box. For now, the fixture is just screwed into the dry wall, but is there some kind of box that can be mounted in this instance, without a stud? Something that just screws into the dry wall?

I’m sure I can rig one of those ceiling junction boxes that just brace in between studs, but I don’t want to do that.
Thanks everyone, the first 5 people who answered helped me resolve this.

Ignore the mess on the antique turntable – my kids left it for me…. I think the area above the fireplace needs something, but the space above the tv I’m most worried about. I’m trying to spend as little as possible.

Last one is dark but it gives an idea to the amount of space between the prints:

I found 2 different 12 x 12 canvases at Target, to possibly go inbetween:

how to whiten light globe?

1

Category : Wall Sconces

Hi, I have a wall sconce light, and the glass dome? globe? Whatever you want to call it that surrounds the light bulb is a sandy textured speckled outside. It has yellowed with age (got from a garage sale) and I want to whiten it. I tried bleach and that did nothing. How about a glass paint or something that I could put on and then wipe off. Any ideas? What should I use???????????? thanks

How to quickly tarnish copper…?

Category : Wall Sconces

My daughter just bought a house. She bought some new wall sconces that have tarnished copper. I thought of a way to make some cool bar lamps using copper tubing and wire. However, she would want them "tarnished" to match the wall sconces.
Does anyone know of a way to quickly tarnish copper?
Thanks for any advice.
