A bathroom or laundry room or anything near or around water needs to be grounded. Will the circuit work without a ground? Sure. Will you or your family have any kind of ground fault protection against shock? No.Run a ground or have someone do it for you, then install gfi"s in these locations.

no only if there is all ready one there and if so then there should be a green ground screw to wrap it around on the light switch.

The switch and fan should both have a screw to attach the ground wire. If this is an old house and there isn’t a ground wire, then don’t worry about it.

If the wires you have coming into the box don’t have a ground wire, you can attach a wire to the grounding screw on the switch, and the other end to the metal box. If you have a plastic box, don’t worry about the ground. The switch will still work.

There may or may not be one?
Usually:
Black or red is usually hot feed to the light.
Black, red or another color is the feed to the fan.
White is neutral to the light and the fan, to complete the operation of them, and may provide a slight return current. There may not be a neutral or bare ground in the switch area but, there must be a neutral at the light AND the fan. Some older homes did not have a bare ground or green wire in any of the wiring.
Green or bare is ground and carries no current. It is strictly .
a safety feature and the switch may be equipped with a green screw – top or bottom – to attach the bare or green wire.
