How do you remove the clips holding a recessed light fixture to the ceiling drywall?

Turn the lights off. Pull the ring down holding the light. There should be two or three clips holding the light in place. You can see some notches and the end of the clip sticking out. You probably have to push down on the clip a little bit to get it to pop back through the notch. Pull it out as far as it will come. Repeat the process for the remaining clips and the light fixture should be able to be removed from the ceiling.

There are several clips on recessed lighting…the ones that hold the light to the ceiling can usually be moved either with a flat blade screwdriver or a pair of needle nose pliers. Just pop the clip out and push it up and away from the drywall. (there are other types of clips this works for the black spring type that are typical on generic can lights).
