if needed work could be done by candlelight even before the light bulb, imho light bulb changed radically the ergonomics of the workspace and made work much more easier due to better lightning conditions. habitually working late was introduced by urbanisation not light bulb i think, in cities day and night makes less difference just like rain or no rain makes less difference due to most activities being performed indoors
