the white wires are not connected and the black wires are so. the vent switch is connected directly to the black wires and the light switch is connected to the vent switch. the sensor that i am trying to connect has three wires two are black and one is green.

Basically the motion detector switch needs to be connected in parallel with the existing switch and the existing switch then removed from the system. You need to check if the detector has a feed in and out connection to ensure the hot is fitted in the correct terminal.
The Green wire is most likely a safety ground.
HOWEVER, see if you can get a tester for voltage
and check what wires are what, there should be a "hot"
and a "neutral" and a Ground.
Did any instructions come with that motion sensing switch?
My guess is (and assumption is the mutha of disasta here)
the motion sensing switch has two black wires because
the "hot" & "neutral" polarity doesn’t matter, but then again
I could be wrong about that. Get some info on that switch
before you wire it up.
A switch NEVER has a neutral. It breaks the hot wire. The green wire on the motion switch is a ground wire. It should connect the the green or bare wire in the box. Remove the 2 wires from the switch you are replacing and connect them to the black wires from the motion sensor. This SHOULD be explained by the instructions that came with the sensor.
