So I’m removing the old vanity light to be replaced with a new one I purchased, I understand the basics: black with black/ white with white/ and bare copper with bare copper, so I was suprised when I removed the old one and the bare copper wasn’t connected, it was tucked in the wall! I had no problem with the lighting, it serviced like normal, so what should I do with the new fixture: connect it or not???? help.

Yes.
If your new fixture has a ground, connect it to the copper wire.
You don’t need the ground until something goes wrong.
Luckily, nothing did.
In a bathroom you really do need it if something does.

Yes if your new fixture has a ground, connect it, if it does not connect ground to box if it is metal.

Yes, connect the bare copper wire when installing the new fixture. That is the ground connection. The fixture will still function without connecting it, but it is for safety and is probably required for compliance with electrical building code.

Are you saying the old fixture was not connected to the copper ground wire in your electrical feed, or that there is no copper ground wire in the feed? If the former, connect the copper wire to the new fixture. If the fixture does not have a ground wire, screw the ground to a metal part of the fixture. If the later, you really need to upgrade the feed wire to include a ground.
