What can I do to fix my bathroom lights?

Category : Bathroom Lighting

My wife was taking a shower and the lights in the bathroom went out on her. She said that she heard a popping noise. We checked the lights, and by one of the bulbs there seems to be black residue left on the wall. We tired switching out the light bulbs and that did not work. The lights and fan are not working in all 2 of my bathrooms. The power in the outlets works fine and I tried doing a reset on the outlets. I flipped the switch back an forth on the breaker and nothing. Any Ideas?

I would call a licensed electrician for sure. It sounds like there is a short in the light fixture, and that is causing the problem. In bathrooms sometimes if the light was not wired properly the moisture can cause some issues.

If it was my house, a call to a trusted electrician and a visit to your local lighting showroom/home depot to get a new fixture would be the best option!

I’d call an electrician.

by those plug in lights where yu can hang in your bathroom…

Shut off the breaker and remove the fixture. The black residue is from a short where power was able to ground out. The wire may have burned off, or melted from a loose connection. There definitely is a bad connection in the fixture.

there must be a second breaker. switch all your breakers back and forth (which should be done twice a year anyways), if that don’t work there is probably a break in the circuit the lights are on. call an electrician.

you have a short circut at the light circut………..remove the light.replace…………….and wire corectly…whith to white…black to black…………..any questings…….hwllcollins.at aol.com

The NEC does not allow two bathrooms to share one circuit for both lighting and the receptacles.

Since you said the receptacles work in both bathrooms (they are allowed to share a single 20 Amp circuit), check the rest of your circuit breakers. (The bathroom lighting may be on a circuit with other lights, as well; see if the lights are out in any other room.)

If there is a defect in the lighting circuit, the breaker may not re-set; call a qualified, licensed electrician if you suspect that to be the case.

Sounds like the light fixture has a short in it and needs to have the complete fixture changed. Make sure the breakers are off before changing fixture.
