Burgundy or dark blue.
Maroon or hunter green or even gray blue.
Purple
White, my house is light gray with white trim.
Dark green, blue, burgandy, red, black.
If you want it to accent the widows you will need a little color, we have light grey with a country red, but I think my favorite is the light grey siding with the deep burgundy shutters. White looks too start against the grey. Some people will use black shutters with the grey especially if the roof is black. Get some paint samples close to the color of shutters you think you might like and hold them up to the siding and see what you think.
Before you commit, drive around a couple of new neighborhoods to get a real idea of how certain colors work together. I think you’ll find that the shutters match the trim color, and the front door is often a stand alone "pop" color. Either way it’s personal taste.

but you don’t necessarly need to match the colours, you have to make it the way YOU like it

It will look great and you will feel the same
Burgundy would be my 1st pick,
but anything in a dark color would stand out nicely.
For modern taste you could go black or a dark chocolate brown.
Grey siding gives you lots of choices.
Pick up a color swatch thing from your local paint shop and play around.
Try using Behr.com and try colorsmart, choose exterior and it will let you go through some idea’s about what colors look good together.

I would go with a Federal Blue. You could also go with a drk. red, not bright but more on the cranberry side.
Burgundy or black. Both are beautiful with light gray siding.
I think a very dark red would look great.

To make it really pop and look pretty i would use white on the shutters. You can also use white or a bright red on the door.
I would go with black shutters and door, and white trim around the windows eaves.
