If it is the first light in the circuit, it might just be a result of poorly regulated line voltage. Nothing you can do about that on your own. If it is somewhere in the middle of the circuit, then you can probably assume that the fixture itself has some defect.

It is very possible the fixture itself is not secured as tight as the others. Allowing the fixture & bulb to vibrate more. The major cause of incadescent bulb failure is to vibration of the filament.
Easy solution convert to flourescent bulbs. Cost more when purchasing but bulb life and energy savings will pay for it.

A loose white wire can cause this type of condition because the white wire is like a ground wire in many ways. If the electromotive force is not balanced, the early burn out can be a result. ALSO, excessive vibration can also cause early burn out

USA Beside the above answers, the fixture in question might be hotter than the others. Do you use the same wattage lamps? The wattage of a lamp is not its brightness; it is a measure of how much heat it gives off. Larger wattage lamps give off more heat. If the heat cannot be quickly dissipated, this will lead to premature lamp failure. Is the can of the recessed fixture enclosed in a tight space that prevents heat from dissipating? Also check for loose wires, vibration, etc…

some recessed lights have a sensor that will shut off the light if it gets too hot. it will come on again after it cools down. recessed lights are prone to heat up because of the restricted area in the socket.

This is a sign you may have a bad socket or connection. If this condition continues you should have an electrician or other qualified person check it out.
