would let them but I wouldn’t encourage them touching the light switch upon getting out.
He/She’d have to yell for me to turn it on when they wanna get out.

I would let him do that. Actually it may be kind of fun as long as you are there to supervise and maybe have some night light, or outside light/candle whatever so you can still see. Has he said why he/she wants to do this? I am assuming your child is younger and maybe need supervision? Maybe they just think it’s fun and different. I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but I am thinking of it from the perspective of my 4 year old, lol
Even with an older child I would say okay as long as there was some kind of light source to make it not too dark like a night light, small lamp, leave the bathroom door open, etc.

Maybe the kid saw it in a movie. Women always take baths in by candlelight in movies. Maybe he/she saw that and thought it might be fun.

Well that all depends on why they want to do it. I had a friend who did it because she hated to seeing herself. She disliked seeing her reflection from the bathroom mirror. So I guess you should ask her why. Then see if you can accept it.

If your child is all about it, I would let him. I would imagine that it would build him into not being scared of things as he grows up. Give him that time to let his childlike imagination run wild too.

My kids take a bath with the lights out all the time. We put the night light in the outlet, and when they get out they have to yell for me to come turn on the lights.
I am really interested in why so many parents have said no they wouldn’t allow their child to bathe in the dark. I would think the drowning hazard is the same no matter if it’s light or it’s dark.

all depending on how old the child is, and with adult supervision i think id say yes just leave the door open so i can check up on him,of course if the child is younger than six id be really careful.also ask him why he wants to shut the lights.i like to shut the lights to relax but hes a child so just ask.

Presuming the child is old enough that he or she won’t slip in the tub and knows to sit down I don’t see why not.
Roonil Wazlib<3 said on 09-03-2010
no, that is not safe. They can choke or hit themselves on the tub.

I think taking a bath in the dark is relaxing especially when I have a migraine. Tell your child for safety reasons you are going to light a few candles so they can see when they get out
I love baths by candle light.

Kids have "Strange" (From adults point of view) ways of expressing themselves. I have a vivid memory from my childhood of being allowed within reason to flex my creative muscle (AKA imagination). My Dad would always ask me of course "Why do you want to do that Tina". I know he would use his judgment to tell if it was a safe activity, or if it was plain dangerous. I once wore a princess dress up costume to the store, and put "Spells" on people when I was 3. I was also known to wear cowboy boots and yell "YEE HAW".
I would say to your child "Why do you want to do this". Maybe he/she has a toy ship, and he wants them to sail at night. Or perhaps he just likes the dark.
Using strong parental judgment I say you definitely need to supervise the bath, and maybe take a flash light in there with you, or plug in a night light.

It’s actually quite enjoyable because you feel suspended in time and space with no visual input, or very little. It is relaxing and sooths the mind. Without all kinds of things to see competing for your attention you can concentrate on the lap of the water againt you, the scent of the bath oils, etc. I’d ask him/her why he wants to do so, and unless if violates health or safety rules, why not? Halloween is coming, and he might be thinking about swimming through dark castle moats at night. Something glow in the dark, such as a glowstick, would provide safety while still keeping the ambiance!
When I was a child and teen and young adult one of my cousins on an adjacent ranch had a BLACK swimming pool. Night time swims made it look like you were in an underground cave pool; you couldn’t see the bottom. It was just wonderful, especially under a full moon!
