I have a vivid memory from my childhood of being allowed within reason to flex my creative muscle (AKA imagination). My Dad would always ask me of course "Why do you want to do that Tina". I know he would use his judgment to tell if it was a safe activity, or if it was plain dangerous. I once wore a princess dress up costume to the store, and put "Spells" on people when I was 3. I was also known to wear cowboy boots and yell "YEE HAW". I would say to your child "Why do you want to do this". Maybe he/she has a toy ship, and he wants them to sail at night. Or perhaps he just likes the dark. Using strong parental judgment I say you definitely need to supervise the bath, and maybe take a flash light in there with you, or plug in a night light. It is relaxing and sooths the mind. Without all kinds of things to see competing for your attention you can concentrate on the lap of the water againt you, the scent of the bath oils, etc. I'd ask him/her why he wants to do so, and unless if violates health or safety rules, why not? Halloween is coming, and he might be thinking about swimming through dark castle moats at night. Something glow in the dark, such as a glowstick, would provide safety while still keeping the ambiance!
