Why are some of the lights in my bathroom out all of the sudden?

In my bathroom are a number of circuits. 1 is GFI to the outlets (2). 2 is another GFI to the toilet (don’t ask). 3 There are lights above the toilet and sinks. 4 Then there are lights above the tub, shower and then combo exhaust fan/light, all controlled with a 4 switch panel. We had a thunderstorm on Monday, everything in the house is fine. I have no reason to believe there was a strike anywhere around. Some time Monday evening though we noticed that the stuff on the 4 switch panel (shower light, tub light, fan/light don’t work but everything else in the bathroom does. There are no tripped breakers. I took one bulb out and tried in in another lamp and it worked. Any ideas?

Try resetting the GFI’s. Someone may have connected the lights to one of the GFI circuits to save from running another wire. This is a long shot but worth trying.

umm maybe the house shook with a clap of thunder and loosened all the bulbs, try screwing them in tighter.

All the standard stuff, I’m sure you know the drill down. Pop the boxes, check the voltages, check the continuity, check the connections, check the switch continuity. Simple stuff, man. If you don’t know what I’m talking about read for a few minutes and buy a multimeter or call someone that already has (i.e. an electrician). I’d start with the switch box.

it sounds like it is only the one circuit that is having problems…so, first things first check the GFI’s in the bathroom and make sure they are all reset. then check the switch panel and make sure it has 120v going to all the switches…If it has power to the switches and leaving the switches (when they are in the on position) then you need to check the fixtures for power….odds are that you dont have power going into the 4 switch panel in turn none of the 4 switches work…this leaves only one of two options….bad breaker or…the hot wire coming into the panel has become disconnected somewhere/ could be a junction box if it is the only thing on that circuit…some houses pull the power off of a nearby plug sometimes its the GFI and sometimes its not. its probably the hall plug. flip the breaker off and check all the plugs near the bathroom to see if they are working…if one of the plugs doesnt work then open it up and check the connections…
