i agree actually i was just having this conversation with my dad. we do choose which one but its a limited choice. its a way for the government to control our freedom of choice…..idk how else to explain it but i absolutely agree with U!! they say we have a freedom of choice but we’re not completely free of choosing since our choices are limited and pre-determined by the government!!!

We choose the candidates. It’s called primaries. Anyone can run.
Last time I checked we choose each parties nominees as well.

I guess it’s better than the alternative — dictatorships, monarchies, military rule, communist or socialist party rule, etc. The system may be flawed, but I haven’t seen anything better yet than a representative republic.
Individuals can and do influence politicians…it just takes resolve.

The best recent example I can think off is the total trashing of the so-called Amnesty Bill that the government tried so desperately to shove down the American’s throats.

After taking many political science classes, and viewing American politics objectively, I have come to the conclusion that you are quite correct that Americans need to quit being so complacent with the elitists that run our government.
When are outsiders to the U.S. gonna relize WE ALL DON’T THINK THE SAME just because we live in the same place doesn’t mean we have to agree on the same stuff we are all different!!!
Most people have given up the power because they find stupid shows like American Idol to be more important. To those of us who still have functioning brains, the power will always be with the people. As for voting, you’re free to vote for whomever you wish. This is why we have primaries. If candidates are "prechosen," it’s by the voters. If you don’t like any, look into third parties or independent candidates. There’s a lot more out there then just the obvious choices to people who care and are willing to spend a little time to find out about what’s going on.
Actually we don’t choose the president. The electoral college does, but they are SUPPOSED make that determination based on the popular vote.
We haven’t had proper representation via the popular vote since Bush stole the election both terms of his presidency via a crooked supreme court.
Everyone with a brain should know that. However, as you stated, most people don’t use theirs.

No as a whole the nation will not realize this. Scattered here and there are a few who do realize it but they quickly give up on educating others because they are met with skepticism and ridicule. They like to believe the American apple pie, Christian country, saviour of the world, free to choose our own leaders myth that has been crammed down their throats since birth.
